What we do
We research public data about contracts and commercial activity — public procurement notices, local-authority spending disclosures, Companies House records and company websites — and send short research findings to businesses we believe are placed to act on them.
What personal data we process, and where it comes from
- Business contact details of limited companies and LLPs: role email addresses (such as info@ or office@), company names and numbers, and trading addresses. Sources: the company's own website, Companies House, and business directories.
- Correspondence: replies sent to us, which we keep to honour opt-outs, answer questions and improve what we send.
- Names appearing in public records: supplier names in published contract and spending data can include sole traders' names. We use this data to describe contracts, not to contact or profile the individuals; we do not send marketing to sole traders or to personal email addresses without consent.
Why we can do this (lawful basis)
Legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): sending relevant, low-volume business research to corporate subscribers, in line with PECR's rules for business-to-business email. We have completed a Legitimate Interests Assessment and keep it under review. We do not use automated decision-making that affects individuals, and we do not sell personal data.
Retention
Business contact details and correspondence are kept while relevant to our research service. If you opt out we keep the minimum needed (your address on our suppression list) so that we do not contact you again. Event records are retained for compliance audit.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or erase it, or object to our processing — email hello@earlyword.co.uk and we will respond within one month. To stop receiving research from us, reply to any email saying so; we stop immediately. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
